Functional medicine

What is Functional Medicine?

Functional medicine focuses on the optimal functioning of the body and its organs. It addresses the whole person and not just your symptoms. The goal of the practitioner is to identify what is causing and/or contributing to your health issues. Next, the proper nutritional recommendations are made to help restore normal function to the organs and achieve health to the body. The practitioner can accomplish this by using tools such as simple blood tests or hair analysis to see where nutritional deficiencies and organ dysfunctions exist. They will also use our internal biofeedback system to test organ reflexes which show what your body needs to do first, next and last in order to heal. This biofeedback works in conjunction with the body’s own control center (the Autonomic Nervous System) to see that the healing process is progressing well. Lastly, is choosing the best nutrition to fuel the cells of the body so they will heal. Nutrition is based on high quality, whole food supplements, herbs and common sense dietary guidelines.

What to Expect…

Initial Intake – The Initial Intake is an hour long visit at which you can expect to undergo a detailed exam, including taking a full medical history, reviewing any recent bloodwork you may have undergone or ordering any that may be needed; muscle testing (kinesiology), focusing on how your body reacts to certain stimuli, a nutrition plan and recommendations for supplements to help improve your overall health and well-being. A two week follow-up call is also included with this visit.

Follow-up visits – After the initial intake a 30, 60 and 90 day follow-up will occur. These visits are in office and will last approximately 45 minutes. These visits will consist of a re-exam, additional muscle testing and follow-up on your supplements. All of the information obtained at these visits will allow the Doctor to see how your treatment plan is working, and if any necessary changes need to be made. Each of these visits include a follow-up call to/from the Doctor as needed.

Going forward – after the 90 days you will be on maintenance. You will be seen in the office, or have telephone follow-ups with the doctor as needed to maintain or evaluate your current nutrition and supplement plan in order to achieve your optimal wellness goals and overall well-being.

Please note that all supplements recommended by your provider are paid separately and not included in the price for any of the visits. Most supplements can be purchased from our office. Any chiropractic adjustments and therapies for maintenance and pain management will continue in conjunction with functional medicine.
